The Department of Allied Health Sciences at Brainware University organized a Health Check-up & Vision Screening Camp at Radhika Town School, Rishra. 5 BMLT students, guided by Mr. Sangram Bhattacharya, conducted blood tests for 196 students. Furthermore, 6 Optometry students, under Ms. Anindita Saha’s mentorship, screened 550 students for vision issues.

Our Community Awareness Programme on Prevention of Rabies at Hatkhola was a great success! Through an engaging role play, we educated the community about the causes, symptoms, and prevention of rabies, while also busting common superstitions surrounding the disease.
With 15-20 community members and children actively participating, this initiative aimed to empower people with knowledge and promote a rabies-free society. Together, we can fight rabies with awareness, not fear!

Embarking on a journey of compassion and care, the Department of Allied Health Sciences, along with South 24 Parganas IDA Branch and West Bengal State IDA Branch, orchestrated a symphony of wellness at the heart of Shyambazar Traffic Guard!
Our mission? To ignite the flame of health awareness! Through comprehensive blood group screenings, CBC tests, and the meticulous diagnosis of glucose levels, we shed light on the path to vitality. But it didn't stop there! We delved into the realm of pain assessment, functional limitations, and the intricate tapestry of daily living activities.
This wasn't just an expedition of health. It was an educational odyssey for our 3rd year MLT students and 4th year BPT students from Brainware University. They stood at the forefront, learning, caring, and embodying the spirit of service.

A comprehensive understanding of the poultry farming sector; industry visit to Agrivet Industries for the Biotechnology students.
The Biotechology and the Microbiology students had an overview of the multifaceted world of poultry farming during their industry visit to Agrivet Industries.
In this exciting outing, the students witnessed the use of advanced technology in livestock management. Furthermore, the rigorous medical trials on the products before they reach the market, the cutting-edge facilities were explained to the students.
They also had the chance to visit various labs including Microbiology Lab and Wet Chemistry Lab. From the poultry farm visit, the students got a comprehensive understanding of the poultry farming sector, its scientific underpinnings, and its significance in India and the international market.
A day with the children of Mahajibon NGO; competition, fun-filled activities, competition and awareness.
The students of Brainware University spent an eventful day with the children at Mahajibon NGO. This outreach activity was jointly organised by the departments of English and Literary Studies and Media Science and Journalism.
It is by means of education; one can achieve and fulfil one's dreams. Spreading awareness on the importance of education was the main objective of this outreach programme.
A drawing competition was organised for the children and school bags, sets of notebooks, geometry boxes, crayons, pencil pouches, globe, and dictionary were given to the children.
The faculty members also attempted to provide counselling to adolescent students regarding persistence in continuing higher education. In the meantime, students at our university engaged with the NGO children in the games of Antakshari and Atlas thereby, establishing a strong relationship.

The students of Brainware University always fondly embrace their social responsibilities. In a recent outreach activity, the students and faculty members of Optometry at The Tree House, a kindergarten school in Shibpur, Howrah.
The Optometry students from Brainware University performed a vision screening for the children at the kindergarten school. This early diagnosis helped in the detection of any existing difficulties in the vision of these children. Furthermore, this hands-on training activity also provided the Optometry students an exposure to patient handling.

The objective of Brainware University is to look after the holistic development of the society and in this regard, the exchange of knowledge becomes essential. In a recent outreach activity, the students from the Department of Media Science and Journalism spent a day with the students of Faldi High School.
The present age is an age of technological advancement. Social media is one of the most attractive mediums for the young generation. However, there is a huge responsibility on the user of technology regarding its usage. While interacting with the Faldi High School students, the Media Science students stressed on the responsible usage of technology. At the same time, emerging trends in digital content creation were also made understandable to the students.
More power to our young minds! We are hopeful that they will make more contributions for the progress of the society!

Former US President Jimmy Carter once said, "Like music and art, love of nature is a common language that can transcend political or social boundaries." Following this noble thought, Brainware University did not restrict its activities within the campus on World Environment Day. The faculty members and students from the Department of Biotechnology and Agriculture visited Kotra Gram Panchayet to discuss organic farming.
This initiative is part of the UBA 2.0 Vermicompost project which is being supervised by Dr. Sandhimita Mandal, Associate Professor, and Department of Biotechnology. Sougata Patra, BDO, Barasat was also present at the gathering and discussion.
Currently, a planned and effective way must be adopted so that we can identify other energy sources. Only in this way, we can preserve Nature. The continuous small initiatives undertaken by Brainware University will certainly inspire some people to come forward in this initiative!
The outreach program organized by the department was aimed to increase clinical exposure of the students along with providing physiotherapeutic awareness, assessment, counselling and treatment to the residents of Bose pukur, Khardah.
More than 70 patients attended the event which started with a health awareness talk. Students were engaged in the registration, BP and Blood sugar monitoring, assessment, counselling and treatment of the patients under the guidance of the faculties.
The outreach program organized by the department was aimed to increase clinical exposure of the students along with providing physiotherapeutic awareness, optometry check-up, general health check-up, assessment, counselling and treatment to the residents of Shivananda Sevashram Old Age Home, Badu. The follow up of these patients will increase the visibility and patient footfall in the clinic.
A total of 15 patients attended the event which started with a general health awareness talk. Students were engaged in the registration assessment counselling and treatment of the patients under the guidance of the faculties.

At Brainware University, the primary focus is on the holistic development of the students. On the occasion of 'International Thalassemia Day', the NSS unit of Brainware University in association with Indian Red Cross Society, North 24 Parganas District Branch organised a 'Voluntary Blood Donation Camp'. Asani Mukhopadhyay, Chairman, Barasat Municipality,North 24 Parganas was the Chief Guest at the event. Hon'ble Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhayay was also present at the event.
Brainware University is dedicated towards a social cause. It believes in mentoring a future generation of students who will empathise with all sections of the society and will always come forward for the betterment of the society.

The 'World Health Day' was not only observed in the campus of Brainware University but the occasion was also taken outside the campus.
The NSS team organised an awareness programme about health and hygiene in the locality. The students interacted with the people of the locality about maintaining a healthy and hygienic neighbourhood.
The students also spread bleaching powder in the neighbourhood as an attempt to keep it safe from germs. This has been a commendable initiative by the students of Brainware University!
Students and faculties (Innovation Ambassadors) of Department of Pharmaceutical Technology in collaboration with IIC had organised an outreach program in Bamangachi Bholanath High School on 31.03.2023 in the topic Innovation in pharmaceutical and Health care and creativity by recycling. Students from each side had participated in the event. Pharma students were present with their wonderful creations of herbal soaps with scrubber, some cosmetics like kajal, cream, along with herbal gulal which encouraged the students and teacher of the school to start with new ideas. The BDO and Joint BDO were also present to encourage the students.

The effect of substance abuse is highest on the psychological health of adolescents with the possibility of developing substance use disorder, leading to major behaviour changes observed, including mood disorders, depression, anxiety, thought disorders such as schizophrenia, as well as personality disorders.
Brainware University dreams of a better future - a safer future where the youth of the country is not misguided by drug intake! The NSS unit of the university in collaboration with Barasat 1 Development Block organised an 'Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign'.

The March 22, 2023, it was quite an unusual day for the students of Noapara F.P. School. They got visitors from a university. The NSS team of Brainware University went to their school to conduct an awareness programme on the importance of water on 'World Water Day'.
'Every drop is important' - this message got embedded in the minds of the students. The encounter between the two student communities resembled a ray of hope for future generations!
On World Water Day, this usual bonding in the most unusual form is a moment to cherish for all the children!
Our program's objective is to expose students to clinical experiences in a variety of subspecialties of optometry as well as in-house theoretical and practical exposure prior to their internships. We also want them to get accustomed to community optometry practise in order to familiarise them with the ethical practise in optometry fields in both hospitals and community eye clinics.
On March 20, 2023, Snellen’s VA Charts (dist. and near) were used for vision screening and where required retinoscopes were used for refractive error screening. Torch light was used for the anterior segment screening. The curriculum included active student participation, and our faculty members provided full supervision at all times.

On International Day of Happiness, the NSS team of the university organised a visit to Badu Shivananda Sevashram, an old-age home to spread happiness among the inhabitants of the home through various cultural activities.
On March 20, 2023, the students interacted with the inhabitants of the old-age home and prepared a number of performances for them. These initiatives by Brainware University look forward towards a better society!

On March 15, 2023, according to Global Nutrition Report 2017, 51% of Indian women between 15 to 49 years are anaemic while according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s Maternal Maternity Ratio (MMR) is at 113, which means there were 113 deaths per 1,00,000 live births between 2016-2018.
It is still taboo to discuss about women's sexual and reproductive health in many parts of the country, especially the rural areas. In an attempt to make the rural population aware on women's health-related diseases, the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology organised an outreach activity at Prithiba Gram Panchayat. With the door-to-door visit, free medicines and sanitary napkins were distributed among the women.
The university looks forward to conduct more such activities which will help in the general upliftment of society!

P. School. The follow up of these patients will increase the visibility and patient footfall in the clinic.
On March 14, 2023, a total of 53 patients attended the event which started with a physiotherapy awareness talk. Students were engaged in the registration assessment counselling and treatment of the patients under the guidance of the faculties. Among the said number of patients follow-up of 15 patients are expected in the physiotherapy clinic of our university.
On March 11, 2023, the colours of happiness were late but they arrived in the lives of the inhabitants of Apnapan Home for Girls, Barrackpore. The Department of English and Literary Studies organised an outreach activity in collaboration with Mahajibon NGO right after Holi!
Apnapan Home for Girls, Barrackpore is an Old Age Home and Orphanage under Barrackpore Avenue Women Cultural and Social Welfare Society. A group of students from the Department of English and Literary Studies accompanied their faculty members to this orphanage and old age home to donate commodities of daily usage like clothes, books, stationeries etc. with them.
This outreach was a small attempt to stretch a hand of hope towards the underprivileged individuals and shower them with the ray of happiness!
On March 3, 2023, the outreach program organized by the department was aimed to increase clinical exposure of the students along with providing physiotherapeutic awareness, assessment, counselling and treatment to the residents of Ramkrishnagarh. The follow up of these patients will increase the visibility and patient footfall in the clinic.
The Media Science students interacted with the students of Barbaria Junior High School and discussed with them the responsible use of technology in innovation.
If we want entrepreneurship to be considered as a potential career or job option, we have to raise awareness of entrepreneurial ventures. Now, it is better to spread this awareness from the school level. On February 28, 2023, The NSS team of Brainware University in collaboration with the Department of Media Science and Journalism organised an outreach programme on 'An innovation and entrepreneurship outreach programme on the responsible use of technology' at Barbaria Junior High School.
The Media Science students interacted with the students of Barbaria Junior High School and discussed with them the responsible use of technology in innovation.
On February 21, 2023, the outreach program organized by the department was aimed to increase clinical exposure of the students along with providing physiotherapeutic awareness, assessment, counselling and treatment to the residents of Ramkrishnapur. The follow up of these patients will increase the visibility and patient footfall in the clinic.
A total of 24 patients attended the event which started with physiotherapy assessment and counselling. Students were engaged in the registration, assessment counselling and treatment of the patients under the guidance of the faculties. Among the said number of patients follow-up of 10 patients is expected in the physiotherapy clinic of our university.
On February 20, 2023, “Justice is possible without equality, I believe, because of compassion and understanding. If I have compassion, then if I have more than you, which is unequal, I will still do the just thing by you.” - Bell Hooks.
The true objective of social justice cannot be attained if it is restricted within the four walls. The NSS in collaboration with the Department of Law is organising an awareness programme on 'Social justice for all' at Hazrat Ekdil Shah High School, Kazipara, Barasat. Our students interacted with the students of the school to make them understand the concept of social justice. A quiz competition was also held to make the event for interesting.
It was also a learning experience for the students of our university.
On February 8, 2023, A Delhi-based market research company has revealed that 74% of the people who experienced banking-related fraud, never recovered the money they lost.
Spending time on the internet is a common factor that binds people from all strata of society. In this regard, an awareness of safe internet practices is of utmost importance.
The departments of Computational Science and in collaboration with the NSS team organised an awareness camp on 'Safer Internet Day' for the housekeeping staff.
The students also made a short film on how to avoid internet-related scams. A presentation on the DOs and DON'Ts of internet usage were also presented before the housekeeping staff.
On September 22, 2022, the Bachelor of Optometry and B.Sc in Medical Lab Technology students participated in an outreach activity. The event was organised by the Department of Allied Health Sciences at Kanchiara village.
The field of clinical practice in optometry only becomes effective when the students are much more exposed to practicals. The aim of the programme was to provide clinical exposure not only in various sub-special fields of Optometry along with their in-house theoretical and practical exposure before the internship period but also to become habituated with Community Optometry practice to make the students familiar with the ethical practice in optometry fields both in hospitals and in community eye camps.
The program was very informative and interesting which enhanced my knowledge about the basic criteria for screening patients in community eye care.
The Communication Club of the Department of English in collaboration with the Department of Media Science and Journalism organised an outreach programme on the occasion of 'International Literacy Day' on 8th September. The students and the faculty members visited an NGO, Mahajibon which is based out of Paikpara. A literacy camp was organised by the students of the university to spread awareness about the importance of literacy.

'Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat' club of Brainware University organised an outreach activity on 'Swachhata Hi Seva Diwas' on September 19, 2022.
The students of the university took part in the rally to spread awareness on better sanitation practices, health and hygiene and garbage disposal, as a part of the event. The rally took place at Kazi Para, Barasat. The students made posters on the importance of cleanliness, sanitation and garbage disposal.
