Anti Ragging

Brainware University prides itself on being a second home for our students. We are committed to fostering a safe learning environment for each student to help them realize their highest potential. Following UGC recommendations (University Grants Commission; Regulations 2009; D.O. 1-15/2009(ARC) pt. III), our campus is strictly ragging free. No act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying or exclusion) targeted at another student on any discriminatory ground is tolerated within our premises. In compliance with the measures suggested by UGC we ensure that:

  • Each of our students, faculty members, and hostel staff are trained in how to detect, handle, and avoid ragging.
  • A very active anti-ragging cell and committee consisting of both student representatives and faculty members to spread awareness about the harm caused by ragging is present on campus.
  • Anti-ragging pamphlets and resources are made available to the students.
  • Students are given free counselling sessions on campus all the year round so that they can share their pent-up frustrations in a non-judgemental space instead of taking it out on others.
  • CCTV cameras have been strategically placed to detect unruly behaviour at the earliest.

Forms of Ragging

  • Abetment to ragging;
  • Criminal conspiracy to rag;
  • Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging;
  • Public nuisance created during ragging;
  • Violation of decency and morals through ragging;
  • Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt;
  • Wrongful restraint;
  • Wrongful confinement;
  • Use of criminal force;
  • Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural offences;
  • Extortion;
  • Criminal trespass;
  • Offences against property;
  • Criminal intimidation;
  • Attempts to commit any or all of the above-mentioned offences against the victim(s);
  • Physical or psychological humiliation;
  • All other offences following from the definition of "Ragging"

Punishments for Ragging

  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges;
  • Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits;
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process;
  • Withholding results;
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/expulsion from the hostel;
  • Cancellation of admission;
  • Rustication from the Institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters;
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period;

Any student(s) becoming a victim of ragging should immediately inform the concerned Chairperson/Warden as the case may be besides containing Helpline nos. below.
