Webinar on Cyber Security Awareness | Brainware University

The Department of Cyber Science & Technology, Brainware University jointly organized an online technical awareness session on Cyber Security in collaboration with ISOAH Data Securities Pvt. Ltd. The event was conducted on October 30, 2021 with the primary objective of observing the Cyber Security Awareness month of October. To grace the occasion, Mr. Debraj Basak, Security Research Analyst, ISOAH Data securities Pvt. Ltd. was invited as the guest speaker. With more than 150 participants, the session was held through the GoToMeeting platform.

The overarching theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2021 was “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.” Highlighting the relevance of the session, the speaker said, “Awareness of cybersecurity empowers individuals and organizations to own their role in protecting their part of cyberspace. If everyone does their part – implementing stronger security practices, raising community awareness, educating vulnerable audiences or training employees – our interconnected world will be safer and more resilient for everyone.”

Beginning with Ransomware and Phishing attacks, Mr. Basak explained the process of safe internet shopping and warned about risks behind Public Wi-Fi and spam e-mails. His next focus areas were on the security aspects related to password usage, social media, mobile device and desktop or laptop usage. He also elaborated on the types of hackers and guided the participants on the path of becoming an ethical hacker.

The speaker concluded his demonstration with an emphasis on the future scopes of cybersecurity. This was followed by an interactive Q and A session which ended with a vote of thanks to the speaker from the Head of the CST department.
