The One-Day Industrial Exposure Program at Braithwaite & Co. Limited (BCL), Victoria Works, was organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Brainware University, to provide Diploma and B.Tech. Electrical Engineering students with practical exposure to industrial manufacturing and heavy engineering practices. The programme aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom learning and real-world industrial applications through direct observation of manufacturing processes and interaction with industry professionals. During the visit, students gained insights into the manufacturing of railway freight wagons and heavy engineering products, including fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, quality inspection, material handling, production planning, and industrial safety practices. The programme also helped students understand the role of electrical engineers in areas such as machine control, maintenance, and automation.
The industrial visit included observation of design, fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and quality inspection procedures, along with exposure to modern manufacturing technologies, material handling, production planning, workplace regulations, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Students interacted with experienced engineers and technical professionals to understand practical engineering challenges and their solutions. The visit enabled participants to relate their academic knowledge to real-world industrial applications while developing greater awareness of quality control, safety practices, industrial workflows, and professional responsibilities. Overall, the programme provided valuable experiential learning, strengthened students’ practical understanding and industry readiness, and encouraged them to explore future career opportunities and internships in the MSME and related engineering sectors.
