Free Eye Checkup Camp Allied Health Sciences The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Billion Hearts Beating Foundation 01.07.2026
The Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS), in collaboration with the Billion Hearts Beating Foundation and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), organized a Free Eye Screening Camp on 1st July 2026 at Kalyani Morning Club, B3 Playground, Nadia, West Bengal. The outreach initiative was aimed at promoting preventive eye care through free vision screening and increasing awareness of healthy visual practices among community members. The programme also provided students of Optometry with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to community-based eye care services under faculty supervision. The initiative was aligned with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), with emphasis on early assessment of visual health, eye hygiene, proper nutrition, prevention of digital eye strain, and the importance of regular eye examinations.
The camp included participant registration, maintenance of screening records, visual acuity assessment, and basic ocular examination conducted by the optometry team under faculty supervision. Individuals requiring further ophthalmic evaluation were identified and provided with appropriate referral advice. Health awareness sessions were also conducted on preventive eye care, healthy visual habits, and regular eye check-ups. Faculty members and Master of Optometry students actively participated in the screening, counselling, and community interaction activities. A total of 75 beneficiaries received free vision screening, while the participating students gained valuable hands-on experience in clinical screening, patient counselling, communication, and community outreach. Overall, the initiative successfully promoted awareness of preventive eye care while strengthening the students’ practical understanding of community-based healthcare and the importance of improving public eye health.
