Advanced Technologies for Processing, Value Addition and Utilization of Natural Fibers Biotechnology 10-09-2026

The Department of Biotechnology organised a seminar on “Advanced Technologies for Processing, Value Addition and Utilization of Natural Fibres”, featuring experts from ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology (NINFET), Kolkata. Dr. Deb Prasad Ray and Dr. Prateek Shrivastava shared insights into advanced natural fibre processing, retting, extraction, purification, characterization, and value-addition techniques. The session highlighted sustainable applications of natural fibres in areas such as oil absorption, composites, textiles, packaging, and environmental remediation. Students gained practical and industrial exposure while understanding the potential of renewable and biodegradable materials. The seminar helped bridge academic learning with real-world applications and encouraged students to explore research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable product development. Overall, the programme enhanced technical knowledge and promoted awareness of sustainable materials, supporting SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
