‘Invention’ and ‘Discovery’ with reference to ‘Alice in Wonderland’: An insightful DST-sponsored workshop
“Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cheshire Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice: I don’t much care where.
The Cheshire Cat: Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.
Alice: …So long as I get somewhere.
The Cheshire Cat: Oh, you’re sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.”
This portion from the famous classic ‘Alice in Wonderland’ has been the motif of the DST sponsored workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Awareness and Patent Filing’. Dr. Mahuya Hom Choudhury, Scientist C, Nodal Officer, Govt of West Bengal was the speaker at the session.
Referring to the above-mentioned lines, she clarified the difference between ‘discovery’ and ‘invention’. In her own style, she explained how innovation leading to a new composition amounts to ‘invention’.
In this context, it must be mentioned that we are aware of the fact that Bengal bagged the G.I tag but few know that Dr. Mahuya Hom Choudhury was one of the persons instrumental behind this decision.
At this seminar, Dr. Mahuya Hom Choudhury was accompanied by Mukulika Sinha, Additional District Judge, Barasat Court.
