Advanced Technologies for Processing, Value Addition and Utilization of Natural Fibers Biotechnology 10-09-2026
The Department of Biotechnology organised a seminar on “Advanced Technologies for Processing, Value Addition and Utilization of Natural Fibres” to familiarise students with emerging technologies in natural fibre processing and value addition. The session featured expert interactions with Dr. Deb Prasad Ray, Head of Division, Chemical & Bio-chemical Processing Division, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, and Dr. Prateek Shrivastava, Scientist, Research & Development Unit, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata. The experts discussed retting, extraction, purification, characterisation, processing, and value-addition techniques, with emphasis on applications such as oil absorption, composites, packaging, textiles, and environmental remediation.
The seminar provided students and faculty members with valuable technical and practical insights into natural fibre technologies and their sustainable applications. It helped bridge academic learning with research and industrial practices while highlighting the potential of renewable and biodegradable materials. The programme also encouraged students to explore research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable product development.
