INTERNATIONAL MICROORGANISM DAY: Exploring the Invisible World of Microorganisms Biotechnology 17-09-2026
The Department of Biotechnology organised the International Microorganisms Day programme on 17 September 2026, providing students with an engaging platform to explore the significance of microorganisms in health, biotechnology, and the environment. Dr. Surojit Das from Vidyasagar University delivered an expert session on “Commensal and Pathogenic E. coli: A Dual Nature of Microbes”, covering beneficial and pathogenic strains, antibiotic resistance, probiotics, virulence factors, and One Health applications. The programme also featured a two-minute microorganism presentation competition and a debate on “Microbes – Friend or Enemy?”, which encouraged scientific communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and active participation. The session helped students connect microbiological concepts with real-world applications in healthcare and biotechnology while promoting awareness of SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being. Overall, the programme provided a meaningful combination of expert interaction, interactive learning, and student participation.
