lenscape 2.0: Stories carved in streets and clay Media Science and Journalism 09.08.2026
The Department of Media Science and Journalism organised “Lenscape 2.0: Stories Carved in Streets and Clay” on 9th August 2026 as a celebration of visual storytelling and Kolkata’s rich cultural heritage. The activity provided students with practical exposure to photography, videography, and visual documentation through a guided heritage walk from Sovabazar to Kumortuli. During the walk, students explored and documented the historical streets, architecture, local communities, traditional workshops, artisans, clay idols, and everyday street life that contribute to Kolkata’s distinctive cultural identity. They interacted with local artisans and observed the various stages of traditional idol-making while capturing stories and visual elements through photography and videography. The activity helped students develop their skills in observation, framing, composition, creative documentation, and visual storytelling, while also encouraging teamwork, creativity, and a deeper appreciation of the city’s artistic traditions and cultural heritage.
