The Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS), Brainware University, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Mononiketan, organized a Free Eye Screening Camp & Mental Health Awareness Programme on 2nd July 2026 at Bahira Bhagyabantapur B.M. High School (HS). The programme aimed to promote preventive healthcare among school students through free eye screening and awareness regarding mental health and overall well-being. The initiative focused on the early identification of vision-related problems, timely referral for further management, and the promotion of healthy practices for maintaining good eye and mental health. The programme was aligned with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
The programme included student registration and systematic eye screening, with 253 students receiving free vision screening and appropriate referral advice wherever required. An interactive mental health awareness session addressed emotional well-being, stress management, positive mental health, and the importance of seeking help when necessary. Students were also educated on proper eye hygiene, healthy lifestyle practices, and measures to prevent common eye problems. Faculty members and student volunteers from the Department of Allied Health Sciences actively participated in coordinating and conducting the programme. Overall, the initiative successfully combined preventive eye care with mental health awareness, benefiting 253 students while strengthening community engagement and emphasizing the role of educational institutions in promoting preventive healthcare and health awareness at the grassroots level.
