Outreach Programme on “Dignity: Understanding Legal Rights of Women and Transgender Persons”
The Department of Law, Brainware University, conducted an outreach programme on “Dignity: Understanding Legal Rights of Women and Transgender Persons” at a Government College, with active participation from faculty members and students. The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between legal education and community needs by bringing key issues of gender justice and inclusivity into a public forum.
The programme featured interactive sessions led by Dr. Amrita Dasgupta, who discussed women’s property rights; Mr. Souradypta Paul, who elaborated on crimes against women under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS); and Dr. Pounami Basu, who highlighted the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and related welfare provisions. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A round addressing practical challenges in accessing justice.
The event successfully promoted legal awareness, equity, and dignity, empowering participants with essential knowledge of rights and protections. It also reinforced the department’s commitment to social responsibility and to fostering an inclusive, informed society through meaningful community engagement.
