Ever wondered how a 100+ km-long bridge comes to life? The Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council and IQAC, hosted an eye-opening seminar, ‘Innovations in Concrete Mix Design: Advances & Applications’. The guest speaker, Soumik Dasgupta, Senior Engineer at L&T Construction, took students on a journey through real-world civil engineering marvels.
From Geo-Technical Investigations to excavation, PCC (Plain Cement Concrete), and foundation construction, he broke down the crucial steps before a bridge even begins to rise. The session covered concrete placement in bridges and tunnels, pile foundation boring, and the use of Sino-Pile technology in weak soil areas. Future engineers got a hands-on glimpse into how large-scale projects are built!
