We just wrapped up a fascinating seminar, ‘Archival Encounter: Research, Imagination, and Negotiation with Invisibilities’ featuring the brilliant Mr. Suddhadeep Mukherjee, a Research Scholar from Rutgers University, USA at the Department of English and Literary Studies!
He took us on a journey through the world of archives, revealing how they’re more than just storage—it holds both abundance and absence. He delved into the dichotomy between the archived Andarmahal (the inner quarters) and the Bahirmahal (the public sphere), emphasising the absence of documented history for women within the Andarmahal.
And Antahpur? It’s the intimate interior spaces reserved exclusively for the women of the household, where untold stories and invisible histories reside!
