The song Tui fele esechhis kaare mon features in the fourth scene of Tagore’s drama Falguni, written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1915. The play was composed between February 25 and March 5, 1915, at Tagore’s Surul residence. Its first performance was held at Santiniketan on April 4, 1915. The year 1915 was eventful as well as productive for Tagore. Overcome by pangs of creativity, he wanted to go to Shilaidaha. In a letter written to C.F. Andrews on January 26, 1915, Tagore said, “I feel that I am on the brink of a breakdown. I must take a flight to the solitude of Padma, leaving Rathindranath and Bouma to make arrangements for our departure”. He went close to his muse, Nature. From Shilaidaha he went to stay at Surul where he composed 16 songs for his drama Falguni, and he expressed his satisfaction over his creation to Andrews and confided that the song Tui phele esechhis kaare mon was dear to his heart.

তাই জনম গেল, শান্তি পেলি না রে মন, মন রে আমার॥
যে পথ দিয়ে চলে এলি সে পথ এখন ভুলে গেলি
কেমন করে ফিরবি তাহার দ্বারে মন, মন রে আমার॥
নদীর জলে থাকি রে কান পেতে,
কাঁপে যে প্রাণ পাতার মর্মরেতে।

Phalguni Mookhopadhayay is the founder-Chancellor of Brainware University, founder-Chairman and Managing-Director of Brainware Consultancy Private Limited and founder-Chairman of Webguru Infosystems Private Limited. He did his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, and graduated with honours in Economics from St Xavier’s College, Kolkata. He completed his masters in Economics from Calcutta University and MBA from IISWBM, before joining Hindustan Lever as a management trainee. He worked as a market planner for the ABP group for nearly a decade before striking out on his own and successfully launching two private limited companies and one University. Phalguni Mookhopadhayay is a self-taught digital artist, a versatile photographer, a filmmaker and a weekend singer who has already recorded 78 songs and is now immersed in a project to popularise Tagore songs among a global audience.
