SDG 2: Zero Hunger | Metric 2.5 National Hunger
Brainware University prepared the Indicator 2.5.4 Report on Prioritising the Procurement of Products from Local and Sustainable Sources for Academic Year 2024–25, documenting institutional initiatives aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). During the reporting period, the University purchased agricultural produce from its Agriculture Department for use in the campus canteen. The products included green bananas, leafy vegetables, cabbage, brinjal, elephant foot yam, lemons, coconuts, eggs and other seasonal vegetables. The documented purchases from January to December 2025, with monthly records and Finance Officer approvals supporting the transactions. This initiative demonstrates the integration of campus agricultural production with institutional food-service requirements and supports local sourcing of fresh produce. The University has further established Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Matribhumi Agriculture India Pvt. Ltd. and Krishibandhu Crop Science Pvt. Ltd. to promote agricultural collaboration, knowledge exchange, training, research and sustainable farming practices. The report recommends periodic monitoring of local procurement expenditure, supplier participation, product traceability and the proportion of purchases from verified sustainable sources. It also suggests formalising procurement targets and strengthening documentation for future reporting.
Overall, the report demonstrates Brainware University's efforts to integrate local agricultural production with campus food services and contribute to SDG 2 – Zero Hunger through responsible procurement and support for sustainable food systems.
