2.5.3 University access to local farmers and food producers

Brainware University has established the University–Farmer Resource Sharing and Sustainable Agriculture Support Policy. The policy provides a structured framework for sharing the University's academic expertise, scientific facilities and technological resources with local farmers and food producers to promote sustainable agriculture and support UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). The policy covers individual and small farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), agricultural cooperatives, local food producers, self-help groups, rural entrepreneurs and other eligible community stakeholders. It facilitates need-based access to university laboratories, scientific instruments, soil and water testing support, plant resources, digital technologies, IoT-based monitoring systems, GIS and remote-sensing resources, training facilities and faculty expertise, subject to availability, approval and safety requirements. Key areas of support include sustainable soil management, efficient water utilisation, smart and precision agriculture, climate-resilient farming and sustainable food production. The University promotes technology demonstrations, farmer training, technical consultations, field-based projects and collaborative research to encourage resource-efficient farming, reduce food loss and waste, improve agricultural practices and strengthen food security.

Overall, the policy strengthens university–community collaboration, promotes agricultural innovation and supports sustainable food systems, contributing to SDG 2 – Zero Hunger.
