Brainware University has established the Policy on Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Building in Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture to strengthen engagement with local farmers, food producers, agricultural practitioners and community organisations. The policy provides an institutional framework for two-way knowledge exchange, community outreach and capacity building to support sustainable food systems and UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
The policy aims to facilitate interaction among faculty members, students, researchers and local producers and to disseminate relevant academic, scientific, technological and practical knowledge. Its scope includes individual and small farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), food processors, rural entrepreneurs, agricultural extension agencies, government departments, NGOs and other stakeholders involved in food security and sustainable agriculture.
Key activities include farmer knowledge workshops, food-producer training, expert lectures, technology demonstrations, field visits, knowledge-exchange meetings, community innovation clinics, student–farmer engagement and entrepreneurship and market-linkage programmes. These activities address sustainable cultivation, soil health, composting, water conservation, climate-resilient agriculture, integrated pest management, post-harvest management, food processing, food safety, nutrition, digital agriculture, renewable energy, value addition, branding and market access.Overall, the policy establishes a framework for connecting university teaching, learning and research with community needs. By promoting practical knowledge transfer, sustainable agricultural practices, entrepreneurship and measurable community outcomes, Brainware University strengthens its contribution to SDG 2 – Zero Hunger and the development of resilient and sustainable local food systems.
