SDG 2: Zero Hunger  |  Metric 2.3 Student Hunger

2.3.4 Healthy and affordable food choices

Brainware University has established the Healthy, Affordable and Sustainable Campus Food Policy to promote access to nutritious, hygienically prepared, reasonably priced and sustainable food for students and employees. The policy reflects the University's commitment to student welfare, nutritional well-being, affordability and the promotion of responsible food choices in support of UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). The policy identifies healthy and balanced meals as an institutional priority and encourages campus food outlets to provide fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, pulses, legumes, whole grains, nutritious snacks, adequate drinking water and low-oil meal alternatives. It emphasises reasonable pricing, hygienic food preparation, appropriate portion sizes and periodic reviews of the affordability and accessibility of campus food options. A major feature of the document is the inclusion of detailed hostel, canteen and food-court menus. The hostel menus provide separate summer and winter meal schedules covering breakfast, lunch, tiffin and dinner. The canteen menus include vegetarian and non-vegetarian options for different seasons, while dedicated healthy menus identify selected food items and their indicative calorie content. The food-court menu also specifies serving sizes and calorie information for selected breakfast, lunch, snack and healthier meal options. These details help students make informed food choices and improve awareness of nutritional intake.

Overall, the policy demonstrates Brainware University's commitment to creating a healthy, inclusive and affordable campus food environment. By promoting nutritious meals, transparent food choices and accessible food services, it contributes to student welfare and supports SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, particularly the broader objective of improving access to adequate and nutritious food.
