Brainware University has formulated the Sustainable Food Choices and Responsible Campus Food Service Policy to promote healthy, affordable, inclusive and environmentally responsible food practices across the campus. The policy establishes a framework for sustainable food procurement, responsible consumption, food-waste minimisation and the availability of diverse food choices for students and employees. The policy applies to university canteens, cafeterias, food courts, hostel messes, vending facilities, temporary food stalls, university events and outsourced catering services. It emphasises the regular availability of vegetarian meals and encourages the provision of vegan options, with appropriate identification on menus. The annexures provide summer and winter hostel menus, vegetarian and non-vegetarian canteen menus, a vegetarian food-substitution chart and a food-court menu containing serving sizes and indicative calorie information. These provisions support informed food choices and greater menu transparency. A major focus of the policy is ensuring access to healthy, nutritious and affordable food. Food-service providers are encouraged to offer balanced meals, vegetables, fruits, pulses, legumes, whole grains, nutritious snacks and adequate drinking water. Reasonably priced meal combinations, suitable portion sizes, hygienic preparation and transparent pricing are also encouraged to improve food accessibility and affordability.Overall, the policy demonstrates Brainware University's commitment to UN SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), while also supporting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
