Defeat Depression

According to a report published by World Health Organization, India is the most depressed country in the world. 6.5 % of the total population of our country is suffering from serious mental illness. But are we aware of the epidemic caused by depression? Are we doing something to prevent it?

1

It is sometimes said that depression is a war. Either you win or you die trying. However, we cannot afford to lose the war against depression. Keeping this in mind, Brainware University in association with Crystal Minds organized a screening of a documentary film titled Defeat Depression made by Brainware University, along with a seminar on the same by Dr. Rima Mukherji, the Director and Founder of Crystal Minds on November 24, 2018 in Brainware University Campus.

2

Depression is like common cough and cold. The documentary showed that there are ten symptoms which may help us to identify whether a person is suffering from severe depression or a mild or moderate one. A mild depression can be cured just by adopting a healthy lifestyle, else it may go worse and the sufferer may visit a psychiatrist. Concerning a psychiatrist is something very essential during a phase of depression. To Dr. Mukherji, proper medication can completely heal depression and help the person to return to a normal and regular life.

3

The event was conducted by the Honorable Chancellor of Brainware University, Mr. Phalguni Mookhopadhyay. He shared his mission on spreading social awareness regarding the epidemic of the mental illness and initiated a discussion on the adverse effect of depression. The discussion was followed by an interactive session where many employees of the University and Brainware Group of Institute shared their experience regarding their psychological crises and depressions. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by our honorable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Subrata Dey.
