WORLD SIGHT DAY, 2019.Organized by Bachelor of Optometry Students Department of Allied Health Sciences

The students of Bachelor of Optometry, Department of Allied Health Science, Brainware University has celebrated the World Sight Day 2019. World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness to focus global attention towards the blindness and vision impairment. The theme of WSD for 2019 is Vision First. Because, uncorrected refractive error is the major cause of avoidable vision impairment, and the second leading cause of blindness in the world (Resnikoff 2004).

World Sight Day - A day pledging to eradicate avoidable blindness.

The WSD was celebrated with various activities by the Optometry students. The chief guest of the seminar was Dr. Shaikh Aarofil Israil (MS) consultant Ophthalmologist, GNRC Hospital, Barasat. He enlightened our students with his speech and sensitized our students regarding “Prevention of Blindness”. Dr. Somnath Ghosh, Associate Professor has delivered a talk regarding “Role of Optometrist in Primary Eye Care”. The session was very interactive and well received by the students. The students also presented “Scientific Poster” on Role of Optometrist in Primary Eye Care. The program was ended with ‘Eye Care Awareness Campaign’ in nearby two villages - Palpakuria and Ramkrishnapur.During this campaign Students have visited more than 100 families in both the villages to create the awareness about the importance of eye examination.
