Knowledge of Network Theory: Network theory is the basis of circuit/electrical system analysis. So you should try to strengthen yourself in this concept. Electrical engineers are often required

 

Troubleshooting : If you learn the fundamentals of troubleshooting – then you will become aware what is wrong with electrical equipment and once you know the basic nature of the problem, fixing them will become very easy.

 

Learn how to use tools of your trade : Imagine an electrical engineer who did not know how to utilize voltage sources, did not know how to use a multimeter or an Oscilloscope…. sounds scary doesnt it?? Learn how to use various electrical equipments with ease before you graduate. Companies coming to your campus are willing to give freshers a chance, but only those who have an inquisitive and ready mind, with a solid knowledge of concepts.  

 

Knowledge about Automation, PLC : Gaining expertise on automation is a must, especially if you are keen to work on a job that involves industrial automation.  Nearly all branches of electrical engineering, except microelectronics, and telecommunications operates on PLC and SCADA. We live in a world where everything operation on automation, and if you want to gain a front end job in electrical engineering, then gaining knowledge of automation.

 

Make a wise Choice : While still early on during your BTech, you have to make an important decision – which electrical engineering branch you want to pursue, electrical engineering has two sides – the electrical ( power systems, design of electrical equipments, power system operation, ) and the electronics – digital systems, power electronics, embedded systems, linear integrated circuits etc)

 

If  you are interested in electrical engineering you have to become an expert in these subjects  such as power systems analysis, power quality management, basics of machines – ac. dc, servomotors, switched reluctance motors, induction motors etc.  On the other hand if electronics is what fascinates you, then you have to learn about sensors and robotics, learn coding, digital systems etc.

 

Don’t Ignore Maths :  As an engineer there is no escaping the big bad world of mathematics. so from time to time you have to update yourself in topics such as linear algebra, calculus and differential equations. Engineers are always expected to solve problems quickly and effectively. Engineering problems involve advance level mathematics, so if you are not comfortable with numbers, you will struggle in your career.
