Workshop on Prototype Validation: Converting Prototype into a startup

Giving shape to your business dreams

Innovative prototypes are the first steps to launching a successful product. To guide our young entrepreneurs on the best strategies to convert prototypes into actual products, the Institution’s Innovation Council of Brainware University organised a Webinar on Prototype Validation: Converting Prototype into a Startup on May 22, 2021. Dr Rajesh Dey (Assistant Professor, Brainware University) was the key speaker for the event and he carefully guided the participants through the different stages of product manufacture in startups. The participants were given a handy set of strategies to ensure only the best quality products are launched for a successful startup. In an age when the startup economy is booming, our students will stay ahead of the rest.

"অচেনা সত্যজিৎ : গ্রন্থাগারিকের মননে

Re-discovering genius

To celebrate the Birth Centenary of SATYAJIT RAY, Central Libraries of Brainware University and Brainware Group of Institutions-SDET jointly organized a programme titled "অচেনা সত্যজিৎ : গ্রন্থাগারিকের মননে" on May 3, 2021 from 4:30 PM. Dr. Shyam Sundar Kundu(Librarian, Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta) was the key speaker of this event.
The speaker informed the audience about several stories like “Dhappa” where Satyajit Ray talked about libraries and librarians. He mentioned how his focus gradually shifted from the short stories written by Ray to the Feluda series. This event captured the brilliance of the maestro and helped us understand how effortlessly he touched upon all aspects of human life in his art and literature. “ I want to give the right exposure and knowledge to the future librarians who want to research the connection between the library and Satyajit Ray”.


Workshop on " Land up to a Correct Job after Four Years"

Success doesn’t seem far away even during a pandemic. The Mechanical Engineering department of Brainware University and Brainware Group of Institutions collaboratively organised a workshop on "Land up to a Correct Job after Four Years". The objective of this event was to provide an all-encompassing awareness about future job prospects besides encouraging the drooping morale of the students amidst the pandemic. It was arranged on May 3, 2021 The guest of honour, Mr. Malhar Chakraborty, alumnus of ME-BGI, currently working at AMAZON (INDIA) Ltd. was invited to grace the occasion. He shared insider’s tips on how to bag the dream job and impress the clients. Students benefited greatly from an expert’s guidance.


Online Workshop on Blockchain and its Applications

Want to learn more about the technology enabling the existence of cryptocurrency? Blockchain is taking the market by storm and transforming it like never before. To help our budding IT graduates learn more about how blockchain is an integral part of the digital economy, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organised an Online Workshop on Blockchain and its application on May 8, 2021 at 4 PM. Ms Diptipriya Sinha (Assistant Professor, NIT Patna) was the guest speaker for the event. Through a live demonstration Ms. Sinha explained to students how blockchain is used in a wide variety of sectors for security and data management purposes. She highlighted free online courses and emerging job trends for students to help them start their journey towards a successful IT career.


A Programme on “Challenges Faced During Pandemic”

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in widespread decline of mental and physical health amongst students who are struggling to cope with the uncertainties of the future. To boost the younger generation’s spirit and help promote a holistic lifestyle among them, The Central Library of Brainware University in collaboration with the Institute of Nursing Library, Brainware University organized a special wellness programme on “Challenges Faced During Pandemic” on 15 May, 2021 at 4 PM.
Ms. Pratima Chatterjee, Principal, Vivodhananda Saraswati Nursing College and Ms Piyali De(Assistant Professor, Sister Nivedita University) were the guest speakers for the event. Together they touched upon how the pandemic has affected the well-being of the general public and the strategies to incorporate for a healthier life. They highlighted the need for a proper lifestyle, good support system, and recreational activities to live a productive life. Through this workshop we renewed our commitment towards the holistic development of students.


Workshop on Nutrition Therapy

To understand the science of nutrition and good health, the Department of Allied Health Sciences organized a workshop titled “Nutrition Therapy '' on May 15, 2021 from 2 PM. Dr. Sandeep Poddar (Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation, Lincoln University College, Malaysia) was the resource person for this event. Dr. Poddar initiated the discussion by explaining the evidence-based approach to maximize one’s health through nutritional and lifestyle changes. He claimed that it is important that all members of the health care team know and champion the benefits of nutrition therapy. The speaker made the students aware of many food choices and eating patterns that can help people achieve health goals and optimum quality of life both for their patients and the world at large.


A Workshop on Female Students for Menstrual Hygiene

Healthy women create a healthy nation. The taboos and myths surrounding menstruation often halt women’s progress in the society. Brainware University in collaboration with Unicharm India and GlobalHunt Foundation, organised a series of Workshops on Menstrual Hygiene for Female Students starting from May 17, 2021 to May 21, 2021. Ms. Roshnee Bhowmick (CSR Executive, Unicharm India) guided students through all aspects of female health. The four-day sessions covered wide ranging topics from menstrual waste disposal to myth-busting sessions regarding menstruation. The workshop gave women students a platform to air their doubts and learn how to live a more hygienic and healthy life.


Workshop on Basics of Financial Market: Introduction to Capital & Derivative Market

Ever wondered what’s the best way to make a mark in the finance world? Experts suggest that jobs in venture capital, mutual fund distributor, and market analyst sectors are booming. To help our students kick start their career in finance, the School of Management and Commerce organised a special online Workshop on Basics of Financial Market: Introduction to Capital & Derivative Market on May 15, 2021 from 4 PM.
Mr Vishal Arya (Team Head, ICICI Securities) guided the students on all aspects of such career roles. From an explanation of basic stock market and investment terminology to the qualifications required for pursuing these careers, Mr Arya covered it all. He inspired students to invest and to create multiple sources of income from a young age.


Workshop on Climate Change Science: An integrated approach for the field of natural and social science

To make the students aware of the science behind climate change, the Department of Biotechnology, Brainware University organized a workshop on “Climate Change Science: An integrated approach for the field of natural and social science” on May 15,2021 from 5:30 PM. Dr. Arindam Roy (Scientist, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland) was the guest speaker for this event. Roy suggested ways to protect our planet from natural disasters and global warming. The speaker then shared career strategies to work in the field of climate science.


Workshop on Responsive Web Layout Designing

What can be better than a career workshop training provided by an industry expert? An online workshop on Responsive Web Layout Designing was organised by the department of Multimedia, Brainware University on May 22, 2021. The objective of the event was to demonstrate to the audience the designing process of an effective Responsive Web Layout Designing from the receiving of the specifications from the client to conceptualising, designing and delivering the layout. To grace the occasion, the guest speaker Mr. Sreyam Chatterjee, Senior Web Designer of Webskitters Technology Solution Pvt Ltd. was invited. Mr Chatterjee instructed students on how a good website design can be created to fit clients’ standards and the basic strategies of creating a unique design. The session was attended by all the students of the Multimedia department.


A Workshop on Conceptual Logo Designing

To meet the market demands and educate students on the basics of logo designing,the Department of Multimedia organised a workshop on “Motion Graphics'' with the view of discussing the recent developments in the field of Logo Designing on May, 19, 2021. Motion Graphics expert, Mr.Joydeep Mukherjee, HiH7 WebtechPvt. Ltd. introduced to the students, the fascinating world of Logo Designing. He elaborated how the Logo design is the most basic tool in the field of branding and marketing that can be potentially used to create a brand identity for any business and hence was a highly desirable job skill. “Hence a lot of thought needs to be applied to design an effective logo,” instructed Mr. Mukherjee. He continued the workshop by giving the students a practical demonstration of the designing process of an effective Logo right from the client specifications to the conceptualizing and designing aspects.


Workshop on Employment Opportunities in Vision Care Industry

The vision care industry is a booming job sector for young optometrists. To help them navigate the intricacies of a successful job interview, the Department of Allied Health Sciences organised a Workshop on Employment Opportunities in Vision Care Industry on May 22, 2021 from 11 AM.
Mr. Rupam Sinha (Professional Affairs Manager, Vision Care Alcon Laboratories) discussed the crucial strategies young professionals must follow to succeed in this field. He started the discussions by explaining the relevance of optometrists in the Indian visioncare space and how optometrists must prepare themselves to work in both clinical and research settings. He advised students to learn new languages, read clinical journals and explore new therapeutic fields. He ended the discussion by introducing participants to emerging fields in optometry like neuro-optometry and vision prosthetics. He encouraged students to stay creative and keep learning.


NPTEL Awareness Workshop

NPTEL Awareness Workshop-I was Brainware University’s effort to encourage its students to look beyond the structured curriculum and use numerous avenues available to gain knowledge and train themselves in the modern advancements in various academic and non-academic fields. On May 19, 2021, Mr. Uttiya Basu, SPOC-NPTEL, graced the workshop as the chief resource person, and spoke about the importance and advantages of the MOOC courses run by the government of India in developing newer skill sets in students all over the country.
Mr. Basu pointed out that NPTEL, one of the many MOOC courses run online by our government, enlists resources from the top educational institutions in our country providing students with a diverse curriculum, which they can use to help develop professionally themselves and enhance their chance at a successful career.


Workshop on Artificial Intelligence

The School of Management & Commerce of Brainware University organized a workshop on ‘Artificial intelligence in Industry 4.0: Role and Various Applications’ on May 29, 2021. In the wake of the 21st century, the importance of technological advancements cannot be denied. It is with this objective of providing a deeper insight into the basic concepts of AI that the workshop was planned. The guest speaker, Dr. Akash Shrivastava, Research Scientist (Reliability and Condition Monitoring), Vadict Innovations Pvt Ltd., was invited to grace the occasion and explain the convergence of Artificial Intelligence and the corporate world. With more than 90 participants, the session was conducted online through Google Meet.


Workshop on Toxoplasma

The department of Biotechnology, Brainware University organized an online workshop on “Interferon gamma, Toxoplasma, and human fibroblasts: A story of identification of parasite virulence factors to mechanism of parasite clearance” on May 29, 2021. The purpose was to provide the participants with a profound knowledge regarding the mechanisms behind host defense against parasitic diseases. The guest speaker, Dr. Debanjan Mukhopadhyay, Scientist, National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani was invited to grace the conduct the session. The workshop was attended by more than 130 participants including members from outside the institution.


Workshop on “Criminal Law: Procedure and Practice”

To make the students aware of the criminal offences, penalties and modes of judgement, the Department of Law, Brainware University, organized a workshop titled “Criminal Law: Procedure and Practice on May 29, 2021 from 4:30 PM. Dr. Jyotirmoy Adhikary (Advocate of Hon’ble Supreme Court and Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta) was the guest speaker of this event.
Mr. Adhikary initiated the discussion in a lucid way, beginning with the evolution of criminal law. At the outset, he discussed in detail the criminal justice system elaborating its different models. “Due to its elaborate scope there is an increasing number of litigations which need to be resolved quickly. That’s our target as lawyers” added the speaker. He emphasized the different aspects of criminal law and how they are practiced and provided alternative career options for the students.


Workshop on Career Opportunity in Corporate World

To provide opportunities to students to expand their dexterities in various significant facets involved in building a career in the corporate world, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Brainware University organized a workshop on “Career Opportunity in the Corporate World” on May 29,2021 from 4 PM. Mr. Indranil Mukhopadhyay (Associate VP-HR, TCS) was the guest speaker for this event.
The speaker started off the discussion by giving students an idea of how to grab opportunities in the corporate world. Mr. Mukhopadhyay boosted the confidence of the students and encouraged them to believe in themselves. Through this webinar the students could explore different avenues to be in the corporate world.


Workshop on Graphic Illustration

Graphic Illustrators are in demand in the job market. To help students navigate through the field of professional graphic illustration and inform them about the job opportunities, The Department of Multimedia organised a Workshop on Graphic Illustration on May 29, 2021 from 5:30 PM.
Our guest speaker, Mr Rahul Ghosh (Senior Associate, Cognizant Technology Solutions) began by introducing the students to different types of graphic illustrations. The next part of discussion focused on the job opportunities in the field and how an idea can be translated into a concrete design. Mr Ghosh advised students to use online resources like Coursera and Skillshare to learn new techniques and boost their CV. The workshop ended on an informative note as students had an opportunity to clear their doubts from the expert.


Workshop on Soft Computing Based Load Frequency Control of Multi-area Power System

To learn how to regulate power system frequency and automatic generation control, the Department of Electrical Engineering, Brainware University organized a workshop on Soft Computing Based Load Frequency Control of Multi-area Power Systems on May 31, 2021. Dr. Santigopal Pain (Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Haldia Institute of Technology) was the guest speaker of this event.
Pain introduced and explained the applications of different soft computing techniques used in LFC. In this workshop the speaker showed some real life data of LFC control in multi area power systems.
Overall the workshop was extremely beneficial for the participants to acquire knowledge and grow research interests in this particular area of Power System.

Loho Pronam: Brainware University celebrates Tagore’s 160th Birth Anniversary

Brainware University brings a message of hope

Art brings light and joy when there’s none to be found. In times as tough as these when the pandemic once again has its stranglehold on us, the members of Brainware family thought it fit to fight hopelessness with a ray of hope that keeps burning bright in our hearts. Through the cultural programme Loho Pronam: Brainware University celebrates Tagore’s 160th Birth Anniversary, which was organised on May 17, 2021, we tried to commemorate the life of this visionary and to find strength in his timeless words. The faculty members came together to dedicate their performances to Tagore and pledge that united we shall emerge victorious against the greatest hardships. The cultural performances by the faculty members highlighted the message in Tagore’s art which shows that like the eternal cycles of nature where summer follows winter, great joy also follows periods of great pain. We as a nation look forward to the return of our bright days.

Creating Equal Opportunity for the Deprived Classes: A Workshop Designed to Cater Needs of the Poor

To oversee the effective implementation of policies and programmes for disadvantaged groups as a part of Brainware University’s social commitment and to provide guidance and counseling for academic, financial, social and other matters the Equal Opportunity Cell of Brainware University Organized “Creating Equal Opportunity for the Deprived Classes: A Workshop Designed to Cater Needs of the Poor” on May 29,2021. Dr. Pradip Banerjee (Additional District Judge, Murshidabad) was the guest speaker for the event.
Dr. Banerjee highlighted the plight of marginalised students and how they are often neglected in higher educational institutions. He provided a list of resources for marginalised students to help guide them regarding new employment and educational opportunities. At Brainware University, together we go towards a better future.

‘I Think’: Testing critical thinking and speaking skills Making our voices heard

Critical thinking is one of the most important factors for a successful career. Companies want new recruits to be able to communicate well and build lasting professional relationships. To help our students develop their communication skills, The Communication Club of Brainware University organised an interactive session titled ‘I Think’: Testing critical thinking and speaking skills on May 12, 2021 from 4 PM. Students from all departments of the university were given topics on current issues of concern and they opined on their understanding of these issues. Discussions on a wide range of topics from female reservation quotas to violence in video games, made the session an enriching experience for all.After a lot of deliberations Sushma Baruah (BWU/LLB/20/002), Ulka Bhattacharya (BWU/BBL/20/), Piyush Kumar Jha (BWU/BPH/20/040) and Shreya (BWU/BTS/20/151) were declared the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners respectively.
